Great Keppel Island Rejuvenation Project

Funding will be used to deliver common user infrastructure that stimulates tourism development on the island. Potential options include:

  • visitor facilities, including amenities and shade
  • boardwalks
  • rehabilitating existing walking trails
  • new walking trails
  • viewing platforms
  • signage upgrades
  • cultural initiatives
  • wastewater treatment
  • improving island access.

We are undertaking investigations into these options and working with Queensland Government agencies, Livingstone Shire Council and other key stakeholders to determine priorities to be delivered under the Project.

Common user infrastructure delivered under the Great Keppel Island Rejuvenation Project will support the outcomes of the Woppa (Great Keppel Island) Master Plan. The draft plan was released for public consultation by the Queensland Government on 10 July 2023. Keppel community members were invited to have their say on the draft plan until 21 August 2023.
