Vertical restaurant becomes accessible with wheelchair lift

02 May 2024

Brisbane’s vertical dining experience Vertigo, at Brisbane Powerhouse, has become fully accessible for wheelchair users and people with complex mobility needs, with a lift installed to give guests a high-flying dining experience.

The lift was flown in from America and hauls diners four storeys up the wall of the Brisbane Powerhouse where they can enjoy fine dining combined with high adventure and views of Brisbane’s city skyline.

The accessibility enhancement was delivered with $37,477 in funding under the Accessible Tourism Infrastructure Grant as part of the Year of Accessible Tourism that has been expanded from 2023 into 2024.

Brisbane Powerhouse’s Vertigo restaurant is Australia’s first vertical restaurant and received funding through the Queensland Government’s $15 million Tourism Experience Development Fund.

Guests are escorted to the rooftop where they don a safety harness and climb out to their seats to experience sky-high city views and a 17-metre drop beneath their feet.
