Tourism voucher giveaway to support tourism operators in South East Queensland

17 Jan 2024

The Queensland Government allocates a $2.5 million funding boost to aid storm-affected tourism operators in South East Queensland, offering 50,000 $50 vouchers for the GC Summer FUNds initiative, aiming to revive the Gold Coast's attractions and experiences after severe weather disruptions.

In the aftermath of recent severe storms that wreaked havoc in South East Queensland, the Queensland Government has announced a $2.5 million funding boost to support struggling tourism operators.

South East Queenslanders will be able to access 50,000 vouchers, each worth $50, to spend on an experience across the Gold Coast as part of the GC Summer FUNds initiative.

The vouchers will give visitors $50 off some of the Gold Coast’s best attractions and experiences, including the major theme parks.

The additional financial aid aims to assist businesses in recovering from the damages incurred during the adverse weather conditions.

Tourism operators, particularly those located in areas heavily impacted by the storms, have faced significant challenges in the wake of the natural disaster. Many businesses have reported extensive damage to infrastructure and facilities, leading to disruptions in their operations.

“We have weathered many storms and setbacks over the past decade, but the recent weather events forced a temporary closure, leading to high cancellations and booking hesitancy from guests in our normally busy period, which challenged the very essence of our watersport haven,” Go Vertical Stand Up Paddle Board & Kayak Owner Linda Spiteri said.

“Now, despite the setbacks, I am excited to get behind Summer FUNds so that locals and visitors can experience Gold Coast’s beautiful waterways first-hand.”

The program is funded in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast.

As communities strive to rebuild and restore normalcy, the government's funding boost offers a glimmer of hope for storm-ravaged tourism operators, providing essential support to aid in their recovery efforts.
