Outback Trail musters music fans to the heart of Queensland

26 Apr 2024

Australian music lovers took to the roads and embarked on an offbeat adventure along The Outback Trail, traversing through Queenslands rugged country and enjoying the sights, sounds and musical talents along the way.

Music fans have traversed the heart of Queensland as they followed The Outback Trail from 13-21 April in search of some great tunes, culture, and adventure.

The nine-day Outback Trail is one of six Queensland Music Trails scheduled for 2024 and featured the likes of Troy Cassar-Daley and Loren Ryan performing at Charlotte Plains, William Barton at Quilpie, Chloe Styler at Goondiwindi, Travis Collins at Nindigully, The Smashing Bumpkins in Tambo, Ball Park Music, Paul Dempsey, Wade Forster, Pierce Brothers and more in Charleville, and Mitch King and Maddy Thomas in Roma.

Queensland rugby league champion Sam Thaiday followed the trail as an ambassador and host and delighted audiences, locals, and visitors alike along the way. Discounted tickets were made available for local outback Queensland residents.

Country music legend Troy Cassar Daley said it was his first time performing at Charlotte Plains.

“It’s so nice just to take a diversion and go somewhere different,” he said.

“I’m pretty excited because I saw all the campervans rolling up here, following this incredible trail – if I wasn’t working, I would be on this trail with a caravan just going from place to place, it’s a great adventure.

“For people to be able to get out of towns and cities and get into the bush and support all these local beautiful stores on the way through, it’s a win-win.

“I like smaller shows, I like to be able to see people’s faces and I’ll only be able to see them by campfire light tonight, and that’s special.”

The Outback Trail included First Nations cultural experiences, culinary delights, music, bush poetry and storytelling.

Queensland Music Trails is run by the Queensland Music Festival and supported by a $20 million, three-year Queensland Government investment (2023 to 2025), bringing music to unexpected places, and showcasing the rich tapestry of Queensland’s musical culture.
