New technology to improve accessibility for travellers
Tourism tech platform Vacayit aims to help travellers with disabilities enhance their travel experiences. Using audio experiences to make the platform engaging and easy to use, they are revolutionising accessible travel worldwide.
The team at Vacayit work closely with tourism operators and destination marketing organisations to offer up-to-date and accurate information on destination and tourism attractions, ensuring that everyone can plan their trip confidently.
Accessibility comes first in their product design. Along with their mobile app and website, they have also developed an innovative audio player. This audio player ensures that content is readily available and aligns with their mission to make travel experiences inclusive for everyone.
After receiving funding from our Boosting Accessible Tourism Experiences Grant, we caught up with the Vacayit team to learn more about how they’re using the grant to improve experiences for individuals with disabilities and promote a more equitable and inclusive industry.
Why is accessibility important to your business?
Accessibility is at the core of everything we do. We firmly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore and enjoy travel experiences.
By prioritising accessibility and offering our audio guides for free to users, we ensure that everyone has equal access to immersive experiences and accessibility information listed on our platform.
How will this project help improve accessibility for your business and guests?
Currently, audio players are inaccessible for various reasons, preventing people from hosting accessible audio content on websites. This project enabled us to develop an accessible audio player for the industry.
With features such as compatibility with assistive technology, transcript options, and universal keyboard shortcuts, our audio player ensures that everyone can easily access audio content on any website.
By incorporating these accessibility features, we are taking significant strides toward ensuring that our platform is inclusive and welcoming for everyone.
How will this grant help to implement your accessibility plans?
Our goal at Vacayit is to innovate each touchpoint of the tourist journey and to ensure engagement and accessibility for all. We develop accessible tech products that support tourism operators on their accessibility journey.
This grant has played a crucial role in advancing our accessibility initiatives through tools like the Vacayit Audio Player and mapping system.
As a result, we have the potential to extend our assistance to all tourism operators, enhance the accessibility of their audio content, and contribute positively to the overall inclusivity of the tourism industry.
