Cairns Koalas and Creatures opens at tourist hotspot

02 May 2024

Cairns Koalas and Creatures invites visitors to get up and close with koalas, reptiles, and birds, while learning more about the rich ecosystems of Tropical North Queensland.

Visitors to Far North Queensland can come face to face with koalas, birds and reptiles at the new Cairns Koalas and Creatures attraction which has opened at The Pier Shopping Centre at Cairns Marina.

Guests will be able to get a photo with a blue-tongue lizard or one of the resident koalas Birra, Pavolva and Nelli, while taking a journey through the diverse ecosystems of Tropical North Queensland.

There are opportunities to explore the Great Barrier Reef, tranquil mangroves, lush rainforests, sprawling woodlands and the rugged outback.

The engaging exhibits are designed to provide interactive experiences and educate visitors about the behaviours and habitats of the creatures, and the importance of conservation and sustainability.

The Cairns Wildlife Dome Trust (CaPTA Group) was funded $163,000 under the Tourism Experience Development Fund, towards the $650,000 project, which also includes the enhancement of visitor experiences at the Rainforestation Nature Park in Kuranda.
